Quality Engineer

JAC Products, Inc. is a leading designer and manufacturer of original equipment roof racks and other auto body trim, supplying vehicles worldwide. Leads by example with data and standardize work related to quality functions, such as: ISO/TS 16949, APQP documents, SPC, Problem Solving, etc. for continuous improvement and to assure product conformity.


  • Shall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices such as; utilizing personal protective equipment and proper attire in keeping with safety standards.
  • Comply with all ISO/TS 16949 & ISO-14001 procedures and work instructions.
  • Comply with all HS&E applicable laws, regulations and compliance.

  • Ensures that all Quality related activities both in the office and on the production floor are carried out in the safest manner possible, both for the person filling the QE position suppliers, customers, and JAC Products employees he/she may interface with on a daily basis.
  • Owner of all customer responses and activities for the Business Unit assigned to him/her; this includes but is not limited to: a. Ownership includes analysis of data and presentation of results and action items. Data is obtained by accessing customer specific web portals. b. Ownership includes visits to customer locations as required c. Ownership includes processing of customer returns for non-conforming product d. Ownership includes maintaining and publishing specified customer and plant metrics.
  • Support Business Unit Operations, Engineering, and Materials counterparts in thorough problem solving and implementation of permanent corrective actions; accomplishing this through having responsibility for data collection, analysis of data, clearly defining problem definition, and advising/coaching the team on Quality System requirements.
  • Effectively supports and understands the JAC Products Development System (JPDS) and overall launch responsibility at the Quality function and Business Unit level, which includes ownership for the Control Plan, Production Validation Plan (PVP) and Report (PVP&R), Appearance Approval, Process Capability Studies, Run at Rate, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Gage/Test Equipment Planning, Fixture Tryout, Equipment Qualification, in Gates 4, 5, 6, & 7 of the JPDS.
  • Owner of Process Control Plans, Gage Instructions, Standards Sheets, Defect Histories.
  • Owner of the Quality Alert and Fast Response tracking systems.
  • Owner of LPA results and action follow-ups (i.e. collect, process and publish LPA results).
  • Lead role on Quality Stand Downs and relevant follow-up actions on the manufacturing floor.
  • Lead role in management of inventory classified as non-conforming product within the assigned Business Unit.
  • Support Production Supervisor’s on the management of QPT’s on all tasks defined in the Quality Process Technician Job Description. Daily support of QPT’s in all aspects of their jobs with the exception of payroll administration.
  • Leads, co-leads, or assists in audits of various aspects of the Quality Management System; includes compliance to existing work Instructions, processes, and forms. Includes internal and customer driven audits.
  • Interface with suppliers, including, but not limited to: review and approval of PPAP submissions, processing of non-conforming product and continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Collection and reaction to containment data as deemed appropriate. Provide management summary of results in alignment with the JAC Operating System (JOS) and other manufacturing systems.
  • Assure gages being used within the assigned Business Unit are following the calibration/certification requirements.
  • Use statistical analysis tools to drive and support changes to the process to reduce variability and improve overall performance metrics as set forth by management.
  • Performs all other functions as required and assigned.

Job Requirements

Quality Engineer


  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering discipline preferred) plus 2 years minimum relevant experience in a manufacturing (automotive preferred) setting.
  • Excellent Mentorship and Leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, both formal and informal.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Analytically and mathematically inclined.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and Control Plans and how to use data to drive decisions.
  • Basic Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances knowledge.
  • Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949 & ISO-14001 procedures and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Lean concepts and principles, Toyota Production Systems.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
