Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:  


This position will ensure successful, cost-effective, and timely assembly tooling, gauge and equipment management throughout JAC Products global operations. This includes the development and implementation of quoting, sourcing, design, build, tryout and transition to production for all tooling requirements and the assistance with troubleshooting and cost reduction projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Develop, maintain, update and execute the JAC Products “Tooling Development Process” for all assigned programs for both new product launch programs and revised tooling for products already in production while lowering cost.

  2. Manage and assess the performance of tooling suppliers, taking appropriate action to ensure successful outcomes and maintain an adequate network of qualified tooling suppliers.

  3. Prepare and issue detailed RFQ’s to tooling suppliers for new business quotes and ensure the timely submission of cost data for all JAC new product quotes to Cost Estimating.

  4. Develop/Maintain/Update the JAC Products “Assembly Tooling Standards” and ensure that all tooling suppliers work within those standards. 

  5. Provide insight and alternatives to the Product Engineers and Product Designers to enhance the manufacturability of products and implement Design for Manufacturing, and to ensure that they can meet the JAC Products “Assembly Tooling Standards”.

  6. Oversee tooling trials, troubleshooting, problem solving, and transitioning tools from trial to production.

  7. Manage the lessons learned specifically for assembly tooling.  Evaluate each item for disposition to improve our tooling standards, design for manufacturing guidelines and/or engineering design guidelines.

  8. Work within the financial targets established for each tooling program.  Assist as needed to insure prompt tool payments per each customer’s guidelines

  9. Evaluate low cost alternatives to reduce tooling costs.

  10. Work with the plant engineering and maintenance departments, and Advanced Engineering, on improving, processes machinery and equipment related to the assembly process.

  11. Coordinate product quality and performance with all operations and outside processes to support final assembly.

  12. Assess new materials and new tooling processes and technologies.



SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:


 


§  Knowledgeable of light assembly tooling and processes.


§  Strong technical writing skills for the preparation of quote packages and specifications.


§  Strong eye for detail and maintaining exacting standards.


§  Effectively work with others, sound verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills.


§  Ability to provide performance standards, feedback and coaching to teammates and third-party tooling suppliers.


§  Knowledgeable of CAD systems/software for product and tool designs.


§  Knowledge of fixture design, sensors, PLC and programming, poke yoke and error proofing. 


§  Experience with APQP, GD&T, Automotive quality and appearance standards, and finishing requirements.


§  Knowledgeable of raw materials, manufacturing methods and alternatives for improved performance and/or cost.

Job Requirements

PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


Note:      Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required for all new hires in all positions. 


 


§   BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience


 


PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:


 


§  5-10 years’ experience in tooling in the automotive environment is preferred including several years of selection and performance management of tooling suppliers.
