              TITLE: Packaging Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director of Materials Management
     LOCATION: Saline, MI

         STATUS: Salary - Exempt

 

 

This position will for provide assistance to all company locations in design and development of packaging including cartons, dunnage, returnable systems, shipping materials and pallets.

 

The ideal candidate will have a full understanding and working knowledge of presenting cost reduction proposals, improved packaging design, and long term returnable container programs. Additionally this person must have great inter-personal communication skills, the highest level of integrity in all business transactions, and one who delivers on commitments.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITEIS:

       Shall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices

 

       Comply with all ISO/TS 16949 & ISO-14001 procedures and work instructions as it pertains to the Manufacturing Engineer position description

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

 

1.       Research, develop and present packaging cost reduction proposals to plant and corporate management for approval.

 

2.       Maintain program binders, making changes as required and communicate to all plant locations.

 

3.       Visit vendors and customer locations to stay abreast of current packaging technology and customer needs regarding packaging.

 

4.       Research and develop both near term and long term returnable container programs working with customers as required.

 

5.       Assist all plant locations regarding packaging designs, packaging material problem resolutions and improved packaging/material handling projects.

 

6.       Investigate and resolve all packaging related material damage problems.

 

7.       Assist Industrial Engineering in resolutions of material handling problems insuring that all in-process packaging is not causal factors.

 

8.       Design, develop and implement packaging, dunnage, containers, racks, pallets and packaging materials for both existing and new products optimizing usage and cost efficiency.

 

9.       Assist non-company processing vendors with packaging problems ensuring that vendor is using all prescribed packaging materials.

 

10.    Maintain computerized packaging Bill of Material data. Initiate all necessary and appropriate data base changes.

 

11.    Maintain packaging descriptions on the new packaging part numbers master list.

 

12.    Performs all other functions as required; included are any work assignments relating to the efficient flow of work within JAC Products Inc.

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

          Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

          Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

          Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to meet aggressive     deadlines

          Strong analytical and problem solving skills

          High level of attention to detail

          Knowledge of TOP’s packaging computer software preferred

          Knowledge of returnable and service packaging concepts in the automotive industry preferred

          Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies and procedure manuals and operating instructions.

 

Job Requirements

PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Note: Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required for all new hires in all positions.

 

          Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering (Minimum)

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

 

          Internship or other relevant related work experience

          CAD experience

          Must be able to read blue prints
